Equipment for hardenability testing.

The hardenability test according to Jominy consists in heating a cylindrical specimen of established dimensions, for a prescribed time and with particular precautions, to the tempering temperature of the steel under examination and in cooling it subsequently at one end with a jet of water under controlled conditions.

Secondly, two flat faces along two diametrically opposite generatrices are made on the cylindrical test piece with a grinding wheel. The variation of hardness along the generatrix of the specimen, starting from the cooled end, characterizes the hardenability of the steel.

The device consists of a muffle furnace, complete with an electric temperature regulation device placed on a base that houses a device inside it. production for cooling the heated test tube (according to EURONORM 23-71).
