The REMET system is characterized by an extreme simplicity of application and allows to obtain in a short time histological sections of hard tissues, metals and ceramics with thickness up to 10 microns without causing artifacts in the phase of cutting and thinning.

The MICROMET is a micro high-precision cutting machine that performs cutting by abrasion, allowing to obtain planar sections of hard tissues, including metals and ceramics resin up to thickness of 50 m, not otherwise obtainable with traditional methods.
The use of abrasive corundum and diamond wheels has the advantage to ensure perfect control of the cutting direction thanks to the rigidity and strength of the grinding wheels themselves.
The reduced thickness of the cutting disks involves a minimum loss of tissue, making the cutting machine MICROMET particularly suitable for the preparation of small samples. Furthermore, the control system and display the speed of descent of the arm sample holder allows quick adaptation to changes in the hardness of the specimen to be sectioned.

The MICROMET consists of a steel structure with the anticorrosion coating chemical nickel, is equipped with sophisticated control technology of the precision of the cut that allow for sections of samples in automatic perfectly reproducible:
- The speed of the grinding wheel is adjustable from 0-3000 rpm / min. and is displayed on the display;
- The thickness of the cut is programmable through a micrometric displacement of the sample holder arm;
- The progress of the sample is controlled by a highly sensitive electro-hydraulic system with visualization of the shear stress.
The MICROMET is also built in full compliance with safety regulations according to EEC (commands 24V, micro stop all the functions opening the cover, emergency stop button).

SYSTEM FOR THINNING
The thinning of the sample is obtained by lapping “LS2″ with the use of abrasive discs with different grain size, followed by final polishing, on cloths with alumina or diamond paste that determines the complete disappearance of rows furrows and processing residues, creating a mirror surface.
The sample pasted on histological slide is supported by means of vacuum from a micrometer drum that, thanks to a movement of counter-rotation on the hard work of the lapping machine, allows to obtain flat and parallel sections of reduced thickness (10-15 microns).
The thin section is then ready to be subjected to histological staining or getting histochemistry, microscopic observation, artifact-free images.
The system for thinning allows the realization of thin sections perfectly flat and parallel protecting the sample and allowing to dose with delicacy and precision the removed thickness. The system is composed by:
- Polisher with variable speed “LS2″ (0-150 rev / min.);
- Drum unit with micrometer and taking histological slide by vacuum;
- Vacuum bell for impregnation;
- Vacuum Pump;
- Floor thousandth in diabase with comparator to control the thickness of the sample.
Cleanser “LS2″ also allows for manual processing, unassisted by the micrometer drum unit, where it is necessary to change the morphology of the inclusion or to remove any excess resin.
TECHNIQUE SAMPLE PREPARATION
The technique of preparation of the samples, according to the method REMET, is characterized by the particular simplicity and ease of handling. The main phases of work are represented by the cutting and the subsequent thinning to abrasion. You can do this using two methods: the rapid and traditional techniques.
Is recommended for small sample sizes included in special molds. To a first manual abrasion, for the elimination of excess resin and for the exposure of the surface, followed by bonding on the slide. The next step involves cutting with MICROMET necessary for the separation of a section of about 100-200 microns from the block. This section is then thinned until the desired thickness by thinning system, equipped with fine-grained sandpaper. At the end of thinning is polished with diamond paste or aluminas on special cloths. The coloring is performed with traditional dyes without any treatment of the resin.
Is recommended for samples with more substantial, including in non-conventional molds. The first phase of the preparation is in the gluing of the sample on a first slide-holder object. The block, prepared in this way, will be adjusted by the use of LS2, by mounting the sample on the drum. Got the perfect floor-parallelism of opposing surfaces, you can perform the bonding on the slide door-final object. The subsequent steps are common to the two techniques:
- Cutting with MICROMET in thicknesses of 100-200 microns;
- Abrasion to the desired thickness;
